Our Lady of Lourdes

Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old peasant girl from Lourdes, France.

The first appearance of Our Lady to Bernadette was on Thursday, 11th of February 1858. Then on, Our Lady appeared to Bernadette on on February 14, 18-21, 23-25, 27, 28, March 1-4, 25, April 7, and July 16.

Our Lady requested for a chapel to be built in the site of the apparitions and when asked who the Lady was, she replied, "I am the Immaculate Conception", in Bernadette's native dialect.

Our Lady asked Bernadette to wash her face at the fountain but there was no fountain there, so Bernadette dug a hole in the ground, and with muddy water washed her face while people ridiculed her, however from there sprang the famous fountain of water that has healing attributes. Many sick people have bathed themselves in that water and there have been at least 64 reported miraculous healings. Bernadette said, "One must have faith and pray, the water will have no virtue without faith.". Therefore, most importantly, we need to have faith in our good Lord in order to have healing take place.

Millions of people from all over the world go to Lourdes yearly in the hope of obtaining help from the generous Mother of God.

Bernadette became a nun, she died when she was 35 and her body is still incorrupt.

Being in the Legion...

LEGION HEROES --- Servant of God, Frank Duff

Frank Duff was born in Dublin, Ireland, on June 7th 1889, the eldest of seven children.

In 1913, Frank Duff joined the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and was greatly influenced by the spirit of the Society. As a member, he gradually came to have a great love for the poor and underprivileged in whom, as in everybody he met, Frank recognized and honored Christ.
In 1916, aged 27, Frank Duff published his first pamphlet "Can we be Saints?" In Frank expressed one of the strongest convictions of his life, namely, that all without exception area called to be saints and that through our Catholic faith we have available all the means necessary to attain this.

In 1917 Frank Duff came to know the Treatise of St. Louis Marie de Montfort on the True Devotion to Mary, a work which changed his life completely.

On September 7th, 1921 Frank Duff founded the Legion of Mary. This is a lay apostolic organization at the service of the Church, under ecclesiastical guidance. Its twofold purpose is the spiritual development of its members and advancing the reign of Christ trough Our Lady.
The Legion, which is to be found in almost every country in the world, has nearly 3 million active members and many more auxiliary (praying) members.

In 1965 Pope Paul VI invited Frank Duff to attend the Second Vatican Council as a Lay Observer, an honor by which the Pope recognized and affirmed his enormous work for the lay apostolate.

On November 7th 1980, Frank Duff died and is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery Dublin
In July 1996 the cause of his canonization was introduced by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr. Desmond Connell.

Prayer : "God our Father, You inspired your servant Frank Duff with a profound insight into the mystery of your Church, the Body of Christ, and of the place of Mary the Mother of Jesus in this mystery. In his immense desire to share this insight with others and in filial dependence on Mary he formed her Legion to be a sign of her maternal love for the world and a means of enlisting all her children in the Church's evangelizing work. We thank you, Father, for the graces conferred on him and for the benefits accruing to the Church from his courageous and shining faith. With confidence we beg you that through his intercession you grant the petition we lay before you ..... We ask too that if it be in accordance with your will, the holiness of his life may be acknowledged by the Church for the glory of Your Name, through Christ Our Lord. Amen."

The Brick

THE BRICK

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something.

As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?"

The young boy was apologetic. "Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do," He pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop....." With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. "It's my brother, "he said "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up."

Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me." Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts.

A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. "Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy! push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message:

"Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!" God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.

"I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done unto me according to hy word". By these words Mary accepted to become the Mother of Our Lord. A true example of humility, purity, faithfulness and devotion to God. This unique woman changed history by becoming the mother of the Word of God incarnate through her Immaculate Conception, Our Lord Jesus Christ. She served God totally and supported Jesus throughout His life. At the foot of the cross she was given to John as His mother, therefore becoming the mother of all the children of God. Her only desire is to intercede for us and to please God, as she testified at the wedding in Cana by saying "Do whatever He tells you." The Blessed Virgin Mary is our Immaculate Heavenly Mother.

Awesome Xmas!

This year Christmas is probably the best Christmas I ever had in the past 18 years.

Firstly, my family finally has an altar(statue of Holy Family)..and also a beautiful Xmas Tree in my home as my father has accepted Christ an is going through RCIA, he wanted to have a family altar where we can pray together. We had our house blessing by Fr. Stephen on Christmas Eve. It's like having the blessings of Christ at the eve of His birthday! We had our Christmas party in our home whereby my extended family came to our house to celebrate this wonderful festival with us.

I had a few Christmas celebration, one of them is that...I went to my friend's house to celebrate Christmas and I've learn a few dishes like garlic bread and potato salad.

And also, I went to the Carolling session in the one-room flat of Hougang and it's amazing how friendly the people there are. One of them is a deaf uncle where at first, me, being a judgemental person, at the first sight of him, I find him rather a weird person. But as we sing the carols, he's actually a very friendly person. Despite being deaf, he's still so jouvial and even clap at the right beat when we sing the carol!.. Amazing... and also, it also teach me a lesson that I shouldn't judge..

Jesus truly rocks this Christmas. Praise the Lord!

Xmas -- All about giving and treasuring what we have

I spent this Christmas in Bangkok. The stuff I saw there made me more appreciative of my life here. Every 10 steps you find someone begging. I felt I witnessed what is true giving in Bangkok. It's not about Orchard road lights or Metro sale, it's about giving to the needy and treasuring what we already have.

An interesting thought, when someone asks you, "what would you like for Christmas?" and you take a long time to answer, it's probably because you've got everything you need. A rich man is not one who has everything but one who needs nothing.

My Christmas was spent as usual with relatives. It's the same every year but looking at it this year, it's amazing how tighly bonded my relatives all are. Even though some have passed away or migrated, and there are new additions to the family, most of us still gather together for Christmas. And we all place God in the centre of our lives. Perhaps that is why God has blessed my family in so many ways.

A family that prays together stays together, and that is why when I go for family gatherings such as Christmas, I'm glad God is the centre of our lives.

To me, Perhaps the fact that i'm not a Catholic,Christmas is just like any ordinary days in my life as God is always there for me, just like a Father to his child. No matter rain or shine, the father will always showers his child with love and care. No biaseness is shown due to a special reason or for benefits, and in this case is Chirstmas : The Birth of Jesus.

Christmas is like any other festivals like Chinese New Year, where family and friends get together and strengthen the bonding between one another as nowadays everyone tend to be busy with their own personal work and may tend to neglect one another. Moreover, it is also a best time to show one another that you really love and care for them no matter what happens.

Speak from the bottom of my heart : all these years, God has given me a very wonderful Christmas present which is watching over my family and my beloved ones; protecting them from any harms.Hereby i want say to God " Thank you for your love and everything! i truly appreciate what you have done for me." You can do a part by praying for the people affected with the disease. in kenya, where an estimated 20% of people have HIV - the church condemns condoms for promoting promiscuity and repeats the claim about permeability. The archbishop of Nairobi, Raphael Ndingi Nzeki, said: "Aids... has grown so fast because of the availability of condoms."...rmb condoms can still make us 10%++ at risk of the disease.

Why Jesus came to earth?

Well, have you ever question yourself the reason why Jesus came to earth? Recently, while attending Legion of Mary weekly meeting, this was the question thrown to me.
For me, I’m a non-Catholics and the knowledge I had about Jesus was not that much. Ever since I knew Jesus, I only know HE was cruxified till death to wash us clean from sin with HIS blood. HE makes a great history on the cross and we are chosen to be HIS child that bears HIS name.

To further support what I mention above; the extract below is a true evidence of Jesus dieing for us. Bible verses are very good evidence that explains everything; for which bible is a gift from God.

Jesus came to earth to give forgiveness and life to those who place their trust in Him. He could not provide forgiveness and life without coming to earth; because there had to be a payment for the sin of the human race (see related topics, below):

John 6:32-35 Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 "For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world." 34 Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread." 35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

John 6:38-40: "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 40 "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day."

John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

1 John 3:8 The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 4:9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him.

1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 1:1-4 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
Therefore, brother and sister under Christ, I hope after reading the above extract, you will have a better understanding why Jesus came to earth. There are many versions of reasons out in the world why Jesus came to earth and I just want to comment that "Do not let any facts manipulate your heart for Christ". Facts that are true and reliable are nonetheless our bible.
Last but not least, Christianity is based on faith, hope and love. We have Faith to live in a fallen world where things do not often go the way we would like. Yet we can trust God who is watching over us and personally cares for our life.
We have Hope for our life today no matter what may happen and hope for our future. Hope that the life to come is going to be more fulfilling and than anything we experienced on earth. We can Love God who gave the ultimate sacrifice in laying down the life of his human body to save us from the penalty of our sins.
God is indeed so good!! Alleluia!! Praise the Lord!

"For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God." (2 Corinthians 1:20)

First of all, I would like to declare again that God is so good because it just shows that no matter how staunch people are in their religions, God can melt their hearts and turn them around for His glory.

I’m a very good example because I’m a Taoist (parental) and it is indeed amazing that I join Legion of Mary. Well, many people were wondering since when I become fond to Christianity and I always told them it is just natural. Words can’t explain it as it is an amazing power. I can only say once you are a believer of God and your heart is opened for HIM, you will feel HIS existence.

God loves us because HE chose us to be HIS child that bears HIS name. When we do not know what to do, we lift up our hand to HIM. HE will be there to guide you through every obstacle by answering every prayer that we pray. HE will breakthrough your prayer and brings joy to you. I would like to declare that every promises by Christ is "YES" and "Amen" -> Promises of God in Christ are "Yes" and "Amen". (2 Corinthians 1:20).

I can say till today, God have answered several of my prayer and very good evidence is the miracle. I used to pray this verse in my prayer every night before bedtime -> Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. (3 John 1:2); and it is "YES and AMEN" though Christ our lord.
My path towards reaching the lord is not so easy because the fact that I’m a non-Christian, there are several things which I don’t know. The only thing I have in my heart is a door that is open for Christ. I praise HIM and worship HIM. I pray to HIM and HE loves me. Through Legion of Mary, I get even closer to God. It is because I’m a legionary and I’m serving Christ through Mary, the Mother of God - Our Lady of the Rosary

I just don’t know how to describe the feeling whenever I was in Legion of Mary, meeting. It is a feeling that is peaceful and calm; make me feel secure and safe. It is as though someone is there, protecting me. Well, Br. Leslie said it is Christ that is present.

These verses make me felt even deep into believing that our God, Lord, Jesus is always presence to love and save us because HE loves us for no reason and no criteria. How lucky are we to be HIS child … =-) Alleluia!! Praise the Lord!

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. (Psalms 46:1 NKJV)

I just want to preach these facts to very brother and sister in Christ that Jesus certainly understands all that we are going through because being born fully Man, He was "in all points tempted as we are". He endured His sufferings for our sakes so that we can have His peace and the anointing to rise above the troubles we are facing!

I want to encourage those who are believer of GOD to continue believing in HIS power and what HE had done on the cross for us is a fact that is unchangeable. HE loves us when on the cross he makes history. Isn’t good? God is indeed so good!!

my miraculous story ... "GOD HEALS!"

I’m diagnosed with serious vision problem at the age of 12 year old. I’ve been through several major surgeries, but until today, I’ve yet to recover. I have to continue go through routine check up and therapy so as to keep my condition stabilized without further deterioration. But, each time, my condition was deteriorated and I had to go through surgery again and again; else I’ll be blind.

I’m an Information Technology student and facing computer for long hours is a fact that is unchangeable and also a cause of my deterioration. Many people were wondering why I chose to pursue IT course when I’m actually a person with serious vision problem. Well, my answer is, in the beginning, I also hate IT course, even seek Minister’s help to get me transfer to another school (Ngee Polytechnic, Diploma in Chinese Studies); since I’m good in Mandarin. However, the fact that my result is not eligible to get into that course, I choose to stay in IT course then.

At the beginning, I hate the course deeply, or rather said I have no interest in it at all. I scored atrocious result in Year 1 but it is another story when I met this lecturer who is member of new creation church. He enlightened me with Christianity knowledge and his patience plus a kind heart that is make of gold, also make me want to work hard to repay this lecturer’s kindness, guidance and enlightenment. If it wouldn’t him, I wouldn’t have been who I am today! Having excellent result, professional certification as a SUN Certified Java Programmer!
He understands me a lot and always preach Christianity knowledge to me; comfort me by saying "GOD is there to heal me …"; "Jesus Loves me"....

Recently, my condition got deteriorated and had to go in and out of the hospital for therapy. I felt really defeated and indeed feel like giving up. But, this kind-hearted lecturer counsels me by telling me to believe in God. He introduce me a Christian website which does preaching regarding Christianity.
I went to the website and listen to his preaching every night before bed. One night, I came across this preaching that really saved me; making me believes in GOD even deeper. It talks about a woman who had been suffering from a disease (blood overflow) for 12 years and got heal! The other one is Jesus heals a Blind Man!
I even jotted down the verses mentioned by him about the woman who had been suffering from the disease for 12 years and how she got heal!

Mark 5: 25-34
When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him
in the crowd and touched His garment
For she said, "If only I may touch His clothes, I
shall be made well."
Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried
up, and she felt in her body that she was healed
of the affiction.
And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that
power had gone out of Him, turned around in
the crowd and said, "Who touched My clothes?"
But His disciple said to Him, "You see the multitude
thronging You, and You say, "Who touched Me?"
And He looked around to see her who had done
this thing.

These verses really enlightened me and make me believe in GOD even deeper! I’m a non-Christian although I was brought to a church camp when I was young. From the camp, I happen to know more about GOD as well as receiving powerful preaching by them. I had always believed in GOD but because I’m a non-Christian, there are a lot of things which I have to pick up and learnt.

But, now I really believe in GOD existence because a miracle had descended on me! HE is there to Heal me!
I went to the hospital for check up and therapy as usual but the doctor told my parents that my vision problem was stabilized and even better than last time. The doctor said I need not have to come for therapy so often anymore and he said it is indeed a miracle because my condition was critical that period of time and need to have another surgery done, but now nothing needs to be done! Praise the Lord! I thank God for his instantaneous healing.

I’m indeed very thankful to this lecturer and the website I visited.
Indeed, God is so good! It just shows that no matter how staunch people are in their religions, God can melt their hearts and turn them around for His glory.
I really want to encourage those out there who want their unbelieving loved ones to get saved. It will happen! All I did was to rest in my God’s arms and leave everything to Him.

My Experience With Prayer Of Student..

My first encounter with this prayer was a few days before my java certification exam. I was very stressed up and feelingbutterflies in my stomach whenever i think of the arrival of the exam. Everydae without fail, i will flipped through the thick stackof notes and went online to look for references and did the exams available. But still, i felt so empty inside me andi felt that no matter how much i've studied, it's still not enough and negative thoughts was what i had in my mind all this while.I feared. I feared of failing the exam, feared of disappointing those who pinned high hopes on me and feared of wasting my time and my parents'hard-earned money on the bad result. I just couldnt help it. Everyday was pressurizing and stressful and sometimes i was unable to sleep welleven though my friends are out there supporting and comforting me. I really appreciated and truly touched by what they did but it just couldntlessen the pressure and fear that i had.

Holy Spirit be behind me to support me,

In front of me to guide me,

Above me to grant me wisdom,

Beside me, to hold my hand and walk with me,

Within me to help live life abundantly,

And give me all the graces that I need,

To live and move and breathe,

The life of Jesus in me so that,

My foundation in life would Be built on the power of

The Word of God flowing from the Scriptures.

Dear Blessed Mother, help me to say "Yes"

To God so that I would like you,

Magnify the Lord

   Just recite this short paragraph helps lessen the pressure and fear that is deep within me. I felt a moment of peace and rejuvenated, somehow the heavy burden that i had on me was somehow shared with another person. Somehow i felt as if it was a guarantee that i would succeed in getting the result that i wanted. And just before i left my home for the exam, i recited again and went for the exam bearing in my heart that God will be there for me and there's nothing i should be afraid of. And Yes! indeed it works for me! I passed the exam and gotten the cert andi'm overwhelmed with Joy!I know it may sounds like i'm exaggerating but this was what i felt. Thank God for answering my prayer!

   Still pondering about what i've written? Here's another true life story shared by Br. Leslie:

   The father told a singaporean lady to pray this prayer during her modelling competition held on 1999. Due to the fact that she was anAsian, she was nervous perhaps the other competitors, from other countries like German, France etc, were tall and more pretty. And just beforeit was her turn, she recited the prayer and went out not feeling nervous. And while the judges asked her a question - "What makes someone a supermodel?"- she answered - "All of us are supermodel in the eyes of God." The judges were amazed and she won the competition in the end.

   Thus whenever you are feeling nervous and low in confidence, try to recite this prayer. Just remember, God is there and always will be there for you!

Our Lady of Sorrows

September 15 marks the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.

On this day, we principally remember Mary on Calvary as she suffered from sorrow of sorrows that filled her life as she watched her beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross.

As Mary is "Our Lady of Sorrows", none of us suffered more than her.

It is in sorrow that our mettle(strength of character) is tested. Moreover, one finds a note of maturity, stability and rationality in those who suffer and who suffer much. And so we should understand that when adversity, difficulties, misunderstandings, bad health and conflicts visit us, we must not see them as things that should never happen. To suffer is normal in this vale of tears.

If she, whom God loves so much, suffered, how much more should we suffer. He, who God and Our Lady love, suffers because God will not refuse to give him that which He gave abundantly to the two who He loved most: Our Lord Jesus Christ and Our Lady. Thus, we must see temptations, trials, stress and so many other sufferings as something normal in life. We must ask that sufferings pass but when they persist, we must bless God and Our Lady.

The Church honours the Seven Sorrows of Mary, as the number SEVEN symbolized the idea of totality and universality

1. The Prophecy of Simeon over the Infant Jesus.(Luke 2:34-35)
2. The Flight of the Holy Family into Egypt.(Matthew2:13-21)
3. The Loss of the Child Jesus for Three Days. (Luke 2:41-51)
4. Meeting Jesus on the Way to Calvary (Luke 23:27-31)
5. Mary Watches Jesus Suffer and Die upon the Cross (John 19:25-27)
6. Mary Receives the Body of Jesus Taken Down from the Cross (Matthew 27:55-61)
7. Mary Watches as the Body of Jesus is Buried in a Tomb (Luke 23: 55-56)

"O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us who have recourse to thee."
